I remember playing and swimming on the beach of the Mountain View Campsite on Recreation Road at a young age of 4 having had many happy times at Shawnigan Lake with my family camping or day picnics . We lived in Victoria where I was born after my parents immigrated from Vienna in 1952. Shawnigan Lake was our getaway place, little did I know that many years later the very same house which was the office of what was then Mountain View Resort built by W.C. Muncie, is my house that I have lived in since 1988. The same beach is where I now play with my grandchildren although the resort’s current name is The Shawnigan Lake Recreation Association. I am lucky enough to work in our area for Island Savings formerly at the Shawnigan branch now at the Mill Bay branch . I was the founder and board member of the Shawnigan Lake Business Association for many years and have had the pleasure of meeting many Shawnigan residents thru both work and volunteering. I left Shawnigan for approximately 2 years due to divorce, but am back in my home and community knowing that there is no place like Shawnigan, this is where my heart is and being able to contribute to our community thru the Museum Board is a great pleasure.
