MUSEUM COMMUNITY UPCOMING EVENTS
A Fundraiser to Remember
Thank you to all supporters and sponsors of the Sportacular Fundraising Event held March 24th at Enrico’s Winery for the Shawnigan Lake Museum expansion! Special thanks to sports hall of fame member, Jim Taylor for his entertaining talk and Enrico Winery for for going above and beyond expectations to help the evening be a great success!
About Project Impact
The current space limitations in the museum make it challenging to do the great programming and community work that the Society has become known for. Project Impact will significantly increase our programming, gathering and engagement space which will provide a direct benefit to the community, and to the more than 4000 people, from local to international, that visit annually.
To date, the Shawnigan Lake Historical Society has raised $350,000 in dedicated funding towards a target of approximately $1,000,000. The goal is to break ground in 2018.
How to help
- Attend the event,
- Donate a great item for the silent auction,
- Donate dollars to the building fund and/or
- Volunteer with the society.

About the Shawnigan Lake Historical Society
Mission: Sharing the passion for Shawnigan Lake – past, present and future. Vision: To connect community and visitors with the Shawnigan Lake Experience.
The Shawnigan Lake Historical Society was incorporated in 1977 as a not for profit and charitable organization. The Society opened the Shawnigan Lake Museum in 1983 in the ‘old’ fire hall in Shawnigan Village. In the early days, the collection was small and Garth Harvey, long time supporter and volunteer stated at the time that, “We are going to rattle around like a pea in a saucepan…and we’re going to have to do some serious collecting.”
Serious collecting, indeed! 35 years later, the museum space is at capacity. This is due to the generosity of people who have donated the amazing artifacts in the collection, including the one-of-a-kind E.J. Hughes collection. This community asset serves the regional area of Shawnigan Lake, with a population of over 8000 people.
